Coral Springs High School athletic director Brandon Wesley, 48, was arrested May 7 on felony fraud and grand theft charges as part of an investigation into unauthorized gym rentals at Broward County schools. Authorities say Wesley and others arranged private basketball gym rentals outside the official Broward County Public Schools approval and payment system between April and June 2025.
Investigators allege the scheme generated more than $11,000 through unapproved tournaments and gym use, costing the school district about $8,900 in lost rental revenue. Wesley allegedly received around $650 personally through Zelle payments tied to the rentals.
The case is part of a broader Broward County investigation involving multiple school athletic programs. Previously arrested in connection to the operation were Coral Springs High girls’ basketball coaches Brenton Hankerson and Donald Calloway, along with Blanche Ely High School boys’ basketball coach Henry McNabb, who was later fired by the school board.
Police said the unauthorized rentals also created liability and safety concerns for the district. Wesley was arrested without incident by Sunrise Police and remained in custody without bond as of Tuesday.
