Former Miami Heat security guard charged with selling stolen jerseys worth up to $2M

Marcos Thomas Perez, a 62-year-old former Miami Heat security officer and retired Miami police officer, was charged in federal court with transporting and selling stolen sports memorabilia across state lines. Authorities allege he stole over 400 game-worn jerseys and memorabilia — including a LeBron James NBA Finals jersey later auctioned for $3.7 million — from a secured Heat equipment room. From 2019 to 2022, Perez allegedly sold more than 100 items worth around $2 million to online brokers. Law enforcement seized about 300 stolen items during a search of his home in April 2025. Perez worked for the Heat and the NBA in various security roles from 2016 to 2025.
