Nova Southeastern beat Savannah State, stay alive in South Regional

Nova Southeastern University’s men’s basketball team continued its dominant run with a 76-64 victory over Savannah State in the NCAA Division II South Region opener, securing its 82nd consecutive home win. However, head coach Jim Crutchfield was briefly frustrated with his team’s effort, calling a rare timeout just 50 seconds into the second half due to a lack of hustle on rebounds and loose balls.

After the timeout, NSU returned to its high-energy style, forcing turnovers and maintaining control. Despite shooting struggles (40.3% from the field, 3-for-18 from three, and 19-of-30 on free throws), the Sharks extended their overall winning streak to 18 games.

Savannah State, known for its aggressive defense, made the game tough, but NSU ultimately prevailed. Now, the Sharks (31-1, ranked No. 2 nationally) shift their focus to Lynn (21-9), their next opponent in the South Region semifinals on Sunday night. Crutchfield, aiming for a second national title in three years, emphasized the need for full effort in every moment moving forward.
