Miami’s Tri-Rail will begin downtown service by end of 2023

Tri-Rail, a South Florida commuter rail service, is set to begin its delayed service to Brightline’s downtown MiamiCentral station by the end of the year. The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, Tri-Rail’s parent agency, has submitted a draft schedule to partners, and operating and safety plans are awaiting approval from the Federal Railroad Administration, expected in mid-December. The service, initially projected for 2017, faced delays due to issues like positive train control certification and platform clearance problems at MiamiCentral. Tri-Rail currently operates 25 weekday roundtrips with around 13,500 passengers, and its Miami terminal will shift from Miami International Airport to Brightline’s downtown location.
