Publix Super Markets, a staple of Southern grocery culture, made its first mark in Miami in May 1959 with the opening of its first store at 12850 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami. This moment signaled the beginning of the grocery chain’s expansion into South Florida, an area that would soon become a vital part of its market.
By March 1963, Publix had deepened its roots in the region with the opening of a distribution warehouse in Miami, laying the infrastructure to support continued growth. Just a few years later, on December 8, 1966, Publix made a bold statement of intent by opening five stores in the Miami area on the same day, showcasing its commitment to becoming a major player in the local grocery scene.
Fast-forwarding to the present, Publix continues to thrive and innovate in Miami. On February 27, 2025, the company unveiled a new two-story store at the Briar Bay Shopping Center, located at 13005 SW 89th Place. This modern supermarket includes a full range of departments: bakery, deli, seafood, meat, produce, pharmacy, floral, and even a Publix Liquors adjacent to the main store.
This new location reflects Publix’s evolution while staying true to its core commitment: providing exceptional service and high-quality products to the communities it serves. Over the decades, what began as a single store has grown into a network of neighborhood staples across South Florida, making Publix not just a grocery store—but a part of everyday life in Miami.
