Brenda Fam, a conservative member of the Broward County School Board representing District 6 since 2022, has resigned. Fam, known for her strong stances on book bans and sex education, cited a “toxic environment” and lack of alignment with the board’s culture as reasons for her departure. She stated she often felt silenced as the only conservative on the board and echoed concerns from a former task force chair about hostility toward differing perspectives.
Fam’s resignation letter criticized the district for prioritizing social justice over academics and lacking fiscal transparency. She accused the board of targeting and ridiculing dissenting voices. Board members Lori Alhadeff and Dr. Allen Zeman pushed back, saying the board is financially healthy and focused on academic excellence.
Fam, who previously attended a rally with the Proud Boys and spoke against explicit books in schools, left without speaking to reporters. Governor Ron DeSantis will appoint her replacement for the remaining two years of her term.
